The West Homewood Neighborhood Association is a group of your neighbors that volunteer time together to constantly improve our community in a positive way. We have a very active (non-toxic) private Facebook page where most discussions happen. Below is a brief overview of why we pour time, talents and patience into our community:
Why the West Homewood Neighborhood Association?
To foster a West Homewood community we love. A good community is intentional.

Why the West Homewood Neighborhood Association?
To foster a West Homewood community we love. A good community is intentional.
What is a good community?
- A good community is connected and accessible
- It must allow neighbors to interact freely and safely. Not only should people, and especially children, feel safe moving throughout the community, but we should be encouraged to do so whenever possible.
- It must provide opportunities for residents, business and city leaders to engage, get to know each other and build meaningful relationships. This process must be inclusive rather than exclusive.
- It must be resourceful. We believe in the power and place for online social media, however we know that genuine connection and much of the work of community-building must be done face-to-face, in the real world. The WHNA will provide a forum, structure, community leadership and and engagement, through festivals, neighborhood work days and other events held throughout the year. With social media and other mediums, the WHNA will provide a highly accessible framework for neighbors to connect and stay informed.
- A good community is benevolent
- Its voice must be kind, as well as carry the best of intentions for itself and other neighboring communities.
- The WHNA was founded as a positive environment and voice for West Homewood residents, but this in no way means we will turn a blind eye to our problems. We will however seek to approach problems openly and constructively.
- The WHNA personal conduct policies were built around a fundamental respect for one another and the group as a whole.
- A good community celebrates diversity
- In our people, our backgrounds, and our physical environment (homes, schools, shops, restaurants, parks - all working hand-in-hand).
- West Homewood has always been a little quirky. What makes us different makes us strong.
- A good community executes
- Great ideas are fine, but without a willingness to see them through to the end, nothing can change for the better. The WHNA will continue to work with the City of Homewood, Homewood City Schools, local businesses, race directors, churches and fellow residents to improve the quality of life in West Homewood.
